The Choir

Continuum was founded in 2018 by Harry Guthrie aiming to represent the very best traditions of choral singing. The choir prides itself in offering original and dynamic interpretations of repertoire from the Renaissance to the present alongside promoting new commissions and under-performed pieces. Continuum’s membership is flexible and comprises some of the finest young singers in the UK. Many of the singers met at University whilst singing in the Choirs of Trinity and St John’s College in Cambridge. The choir typically comprises eighteen singers. The Composer of Residence of Continuum is Lucy Walker.

The choir celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2024 and, to date, has performed forty-two concerts across twelve locations in England and Wales. The choir enjoys performing regularly in London and Cambridge and has given concerts in Oxford, Bedford, Amersham, Harpenden, Sevenoaks, Salisbury, Wells and Sherborne. The choir has performed as part of the Brecon Choral Festival, the Lamberhurst Music Festival and as part of Music at St Mary’s Perivale. In 2026, the choir will give concerts in London, Cambridge, Bedford and Sherborne as well as perform for the first time at the Salisbury International Festival. The choir returns to South Wales in July 2026 to perform a programme for the Brecon Choir Festival. Across 2026, the choir will perform for the concert series at Clare Hall, Cambridge three times.

True to our founding ambition to develop new repertoire, we have commissioned thirteen new works and arrangements by eight different composers. Some are new and upcoming voices – Lucy Walker, Carlos Rodriguez Otero, Alexander Hopkins, Helena Paish, George Herbert and Harold Thalange, with others being more established composers, Stuart Beer and Geraint Lewis. The choir enjoys an ongoing association with the charity Multitude of Voyces and gave a concert in support of their work in April 2023. The choir regularly records for the charity in support of their Elizabeth Poston project: her music and her influence. In 2026, the choir will premiere music by Ben Parry, Joanna Forbes-L’Estrange, Stuart Beer and Lucy Walker.

April 2024 saw the launch of the Continuum Choral Library, with new releases of choral music every month until late 2025. Accessible via Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube, the library showcases our music to wider audiences beyond live performance. In 2024, the choir released volumes of British music from the Twentieth century, music from the Tudor Renaissance and a volume of music for Christmas. Releases in 2025 included a series focussed on our commissions and a selection of American a cappella works.
